BrilliantI nheritance 찬란한 유산 (aka Shining Legacy) was one of the TOP 2009 KDrama hits and catapulted Han Hyo Joo, Bae Soo Bin and Lee Seung Ki into more success and popularity this past spring. Though this drama has the TYPICAL Kdrama components---someone is rich (check), someone is poor (check), both fall in love (check), evil parent (this case stepmom) (check), many obstacles and hardships (check), love triangles amongst the leads (check), someone is ill (check) but still somehow got me interested. One big winner is the attractive cast and good acting. Right now I am more than halfway done with this drama and I only started it 3 days ago.
I just typed alot of my impressions and lost it. Not sure if I want to retype it.
Go Eun Sung loses everything as her life is turned upside down after returning home from college in the US. On the same flight is Sung Woo Hwa-the sole heir of a food company at the bidding of the President/also his grandmother from playing around in the US. Their bags get mixed up and their lives start to get mixed up together all the while Eun Sung's life as she knows it spirals out of control.
The young teen who potrays Go Eun Sung's brother the autistic but piano prodigy Eun Woo is excellent here. I really think he nails it and does a very remarkable job. The evil step mom maliciously kicks out Eun Sung and Eun Woo after their father dies and leaves the family penniless after his construction company went bankrupt. Now Eun Sung and Eun Woo are orphans (as their mom passed when they were younger) and they are unaware that there was a huge life insurance settlement that the step mom withheld from them.
Essentially:
Han Hyo Joo is rocking the role and you feel her pain. I am more impressed by her acting in this drama her bright smiles, pained crying (over her lost autistic brother) makes you want to give her a big hug. I thought she was not bad in "Spring Waltz" 봄의 왈츠 The mushroom due is not doing it for me but thankfully she ties it back alot (for work and convenience). It is great to see Moon Chae Won and Bae Soo Bin who were in "Painter in the Wind" 바람의 화원( which I LOVED) last year at this time. She as the kisang and Soo Bin as the troubled King. Lee Seung Ki as a spoiled, arrogant rich heir does not do it for me. It seems a bit awkward but he is improving as the episodes progress. Knowing him as a nuna fave and it did not hurt the ballad "Because You're My Woman" 여자라니까 came out during his debut did not hurt either.
Bae Soo Bin as the "ideal" perfect Kdrama man who does not get the girl Jun Sae is sad. He is always there for Go Eun Sung (Han Hyo Joo) but she only sees him as a treasured "big brother" and friend and nothing more. He garnered many fans thanks to this drama. (I liked him alot in Jumong/HaeShin/Painter in the Wind.). Lee Seung Gi and Han Hyo Joo garnered tons of press and popularity from everyone who loved this drama. It ruled in the ratings this past spring. I can see why. Despite all the typical old Kdrama formula, the leads do a great job acting and as always easy on the eyes.
I have definitely gotten back in the swing of watching a few at the same time. Usually I do one at a time, but I am looking forward to the other episodes and I am up to episode 15 (out of 28---it got extended due its popularity)after 3 days.
