  • Korean help

Last night I met up with my tutor at Athans Bakery. I have not been to it since it renovated and added a dining area. The rain  has been so excessive and dreary of late. I noticed that you order from one side and then bring the food to your table. Then in the dining room, you can pick up your drinks as the order comes up. There is no table service and they appreciate it if you bus your own table. The $8 credit card minimum was no problem either.

We try to do one hour for me and one hour for my tutor. She used the 2/18/09 session #1 MIT Winter intermediate level hand out. I must say that was the only time I went. But this time around with her help and possibly my further study, I felt very comfortable with the material. Initially back in February I felt very lost and did not understand anything at all. I learned about past/present and polite and honorific verb endings and irregular contractions for verbs and adjectives. Turns out with all the drama/movies that I have watched, I knew alot of them naturally especially with the contractions. As each session proceeds, I do feel a bit more confident.

My tutor things that my pronunciation is very good. But I always want to strive to be better. I don't have too much confidence to have more complicated sentences. But learning more about particles, "from", "and", "to" etc have helped. I guess it is more repetition. Also I guess to be a real serious student, I have to stop not trying to spell and really do it. It is the only way I think.

My original goal was to learn enough to not need subtitles, but I realize having a more serious study to include spelling, writing in addition to listening comprehension and conversational skills helps alot. Right now I can read aloud stuff but not necessarily understand what I am reading. But when I can read aloud stuff or understand something, it is a very exciting feeling indeed.
